Program Description:

The Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) at Purdue University offers graduate research programs leading to the MS and PhD degrees. EAPS is the multidisciplinary department of the College of Science. Our research uses mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology , statistics, and computer modeling to address some of the most challenging interdisciplinary questions about the past, present and future state of the earth system. Many of our research programs include field work in the U.S. or abroad. Our department is equipped with state of the art computer and laboratory facilities for calculation, visualization, and experimentation. The core of the EAPS graduate research programs is found in four broad scientific areas that are at the forefront of earth systems discovery and learning: Atmosphere-Surface Interactions Geology and Geophysics Climate, Clouds and Extreme Weather Planetary Sciences EAPS research extends beyond the departmental walls. Many of our researchers are actively involved with multidisciplinary, preeminent research centers located on the Purdue campus.


Purdue University has been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) since 1913.

International Student Requirements:

TOEFL - 550 minimum for paper-based; 213 minimum for computer-based; and an overall score of 77 for Internet-based. Required minimum scores of the four Internet-based test areas are: Writing 18; Speaking 18; Listening 14; and Reading 19. Scores must not be more than two years old prior to admission at Purdue. The Graduate School also accepts International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. An overall band score of 6.5 is required for admission. The Graduate School also accepts the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic scores. An overall score of 58 is required for admission. Failure to achieve the required minimum scores for any of the above tests is an automatic denial of your application.
