Program Description:

The Department of Computer Science focuses on preparing students to be at the forefront of this information age. The courses focus on Information systems, network security, software engineering, bioinformatics and business intelligence. The program has three concentrations: one for individuals who want to enter careers in industry, one for individuals who want to pursue a Ph.D., and one for high school teachers who want to obtain an endorsement to teach computer science. The program requires 36 credit hours of course work: 9 credit hours of elective course work (or 12 credit hours, if the student completes a Master’s Thesis), 18 credit hours of required course work from one of three concentrations, and 9 credit hours of elective course work (or 6 credit hours, if the student completes a Master’s Thesis). Completion of a Master’s Thesis or Project is required. The University has regional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. In addition, the university also is accredited through several disciplinary bodies.
