Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology
The PhD in Counseling Psychology program is designed for students who seek to engage in the professional practice of psychology. The professional practice may include conducting research, teaching and/or counseling in a variety of settings. Students graduating from this program, provided they meet other State of Illinois requirements, may sit for the Clinical Psychologist licensure examination. This degree is conferred by The Graduate School.
The program is based on the scientist-practitioner model of graduate education and training. The interdependence of the science and profession of psychology is emphasized in all aspects of the program. Students are exposed to the fundamental knowledge base in psychology, counseling psychology, and the program faculty’s areas of expertise (i.e., multicultural psychology, vocational psychology, prevention).
A master's degree in counseling, psychology or a related field is required for admission into the doctoral program. The GRE scores and the subject test in Psychology are also required for admission.
