Nursing Master's Entry

Program Description:

Now is the time to move into a career in nursing. With rapid advancements in technology, the aging nursing workforce, dynamic healthcare needs of the U.S. population and increased access to care, experienced nurse leaders are needed now more than ever. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Projections from 2012, the next decade will see a shortage of more than a quarter of a million registered nurses. And more than 1.2 million job openings in nursing will be available by 2020. In Elmhurst’s nursing master’s entry (NME) program, our targeted clinical focus provides a framework for clinical leadership in an advanced role in nursing. Throughout the program, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of the current and emerging health care system. You’ll learn to think strategically about today’s health care issues. And you’ll master key skills to enhance clinical practice and promote optimal outcomes for individuals and populations. The nursing master’s entry program at Elmhurst is the only program of its kind in the suburbs of Chicago. Designed specifically for students with baccalaureate degrees outside of nursing who want to transition into the field, the program prepares students to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam and the clinical nurse leader certification exam. This full-time, 21-course, 70-semester hour program is completed in two years and allows prelicensure students to pursue an advanced degree in nursing while developing the skills required to become a registered nurse. Courses are taught in a hybrid format combining on-campus and online coursework, and every student will receive an iPad at the beginning of the program. Students in the nursing master’s entry program will also have access to a state-of-the-art Simulation Center located at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
