Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision program at Adler University is for those who hold master’s degrees in counseling or related fields with a desire to advanced expertise and
excellence in teaching, research, leadership and advocacy, counseling, and supervision.
The program, recognized by the Higher Learning Commission, reflects our University’s social justice mission and integrates throughout the curriculum themes of social justice, diversity, multiculturalism, oppression, freedom, and liberation.
Our program educates students in advanced counseling and psychotherapy integration and techniques, focusing on the factors of change, rather than on the many theories. We prepare students to publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, and early in their coursework, we encourage students to examine and engage their own interests and passions, crucial in the development of a research topic for their dissertation.
We develop empathetic and compassionate leaders to promote humanistic scholarship and practice. Adler has earned a national reputation for training culturally competent clinicians through the use of innovative practices in graduate education.
