They are uniquely equipped to tackle today’s most challenging design problems. Our seamless Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture program - with a 2-year Master of Architecture option - is accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board.
Our M. Arch graduates are prepared to practice as a professional, licensed architect.

Acceptance is contingent upon applicant's intended area of study being paired with the interest and expertise of a graduate faculty member who is willing to serve as major professor. Bachelor's degree in any discipline; BArch can be completed while enrolled in MArch program.
The Master of Science in Architecture degree is a post professional degree that offers a research program to candidates who hold a professional degree in architecture, or degree holders who desire to develop expertise in architectural research and scholarship.
The program is designed for independent research leading to a thesis under the direction of a major professor and thesis committee. This degree does not lead to licensure as a professional architect.
What You Learn
At the core of the M.S. Arch is a strong emphasis on architectural research. With one of our top faculty members as your personal mentor, you engage in independent research leading to a thesis. Your research and study may focus on one or more of the following areas:
•Sustainable architecture and planning
•Environment and behavior studies
•Computing and visualization studies
You work with a major professor and thesis committee for guidance in establishing a study plan and for research direction. Potential students for the M.S. Arch program should apply through the University of Idaho College of Graduate Studies.
M.S. Arch students have opportunities to engage in research either at the Moscow campus or at the Idaho Urban Research and Design Center (IURDC) in Boise, where you work with academic faculty and practicing professionals to examine urban and community design issues. Also in Boise is the Integrated Design Lab, which is dedicated to the development of high performance energy efficient buildings in Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
The M.S. Arch gives you additional credibility in a specific area of architecture, allowing you to gain professional recognition as a specialist. The degree is excellent preparation for a future in academia as a university professor and researcher.
