Overview of Dietetics
Since 1974, Idaho State University has offered a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics. Idaho State University offers the only approved Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) in the state. Students in pre-dietetics programs at Boise State University, the College of Southern Idaho, and BYU-Idaho College who meet the requirements for the DPD program may apply to the Idaho State University program.
It is important for students to meet with an advisor before applying to ISU to insure proper transfer courses are taken. The DPD integrates practical experience in food service management, clinical nutrition, and community outreach with the traditional classroom curriculum. Most of the graduates of the DPD Program have completed a dietetic internship, and become eligible to take the National Registration Examination.
ISU offers a Dietetic Internship program as a post-graduate supervised practice during two semesters. Admission into the DPD does not ensure acceptance into the ISU Dietetic Internship.
Health Care Administration Overview
Without a doubt, today's healthcare industry is one of the largest, most interesting, and most complex industries in our country. The opportunities will be nearly endless for someone entering tomorrow's healthcare workforce.
Health Care Administration is the business and management side of healthcare. We are specialists in running healthcare businesses and organizations, ensuring that care is excellent, and that patients and providers have the best possible experience in their organizations. While doctors, nurses, and other caregivers help one patient at a time, the decisions made by healthcare administrators can help and improve the life of hundreds, perhaps, thousands of people every day.
Health Care Administration is exciting, challenging, has a great career ladder, and excellent earning potential.
Our program here at ISU is small; you get to know your professors and benefit from small, interactive classes, especially at the upper levels of the program.
Even if you don't choose to major in Health Care Administration, give serious thought to choosing 2 or 3 of our courses as electives. We hear over and over again from practicing physicians, dentists, and other professionals that they wish they would have taken the opportunity to learn business techniques and skills earlier in their careers, while they were in school, instead of having had to pick them up haphazardly along the way.
Health Care Administration is a rewarding and exciting career and it needs strong and innovative leaders. Health Care Administration provides you the opportunity to truly serve people and communities in a unique and vital way.
I invite you talk with us about our program. Just call our department at 282-2842 between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and ask to set up an appointment. We look forward to meeting you and sharing our excitement about Health Care Administration.
