SCAD has the largest and most comprehensive sequential art department in the United States, with the most full-time faculty. SCAD was the first, and remains one of the few, institutions to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in sequential art.
Classes focus on the skills necessary for visual storytelling, applicable to a wide range of industries. A progressive curriculum incorporates traditional techniques with industry-standard technology, conventional materials and specialized computer applications, allowing students to hone their artistic abilities while working toward achieving professional goals.
Sequential art electives include courses in Manga and superhero comics, webcomics, advanced writing for comics, painting for comics, cover illustration for comics, conceptual illustration, comic strips, storyboarding, maquette design, advanced studies in human and animal anatomy, and sequential picture books for children.
SCAD sequential art alumni are working successfully in several areas, including all aspects of mainstream and alternative comic production, education, illustration, model sculpting for action figures, concept design for animation, and drawing storyboards for major animated films, television, commercials, feature films and video games.
The Savannah College of Art and Design is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
