The Master of Arts in Psychology (M.A.) program provides a strong understanding of the biological bases of behavior, social bases of behavior, acquired bases of behavior and individual bases of behavior. This program is designed to help students develop skills in research methodology, statistics and critical thinking.
The Licensed Mental Health Counselor concentration is a 60 sh program with requirements comparable to those established by the Florida state board for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor. Attainment of the degree does not entail conferral of the license, which is governed by the state licensing board. Upon graduation from the pre-licensure option, the individual should qualify to register with the state licensing board as an intern and to obtain the two-year post-degree supervised experience required by the board for licensure.
The University of West Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The Counseling program meets all standards of the Council of Applied Masters Programs in Psychology (CAMPP) and the Masters of Psychology Accreditation Council (MPAC).
