Program Description:
The Department of Physics offers graduate programs leading to an M.S. in Physics, a Dual-M.S. degree in Physics & Engineering, and a Ph.D in Applied Physics. The dual-M.S. degree is offered in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department at USF. Under the Dual-M.S. degree program students can earn an M.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Engineering Science or Electrical Engineering within 3 years by completing only one thesis. These programs encompass the research areas of Biophysics & Biomedical Physics, Atomic Molecular & Optical Physics, Solid State & Materials Physics, and Physics Education.
The industrial practicum course is an important feature of the Ph.D. program in Applied Physics allowing students to gain first-hand experience in laboratories outside of the University. This experience directly supports our doctoral students in their efforts to connect fundamental knowledge acquired in the academic setting with real-world applications and challenges.
