Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Liberal Arts is an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental program that offers students an opportunity to study the ideas and works that have shaped world culture. There are three main tracks or concentrations within the Liberal Arts M.A.: Humanities, Film & New Media Studies, and American Studies. Students in Humanities integrate interpretations of works of art from a given cultural period with an understanding of their relationships to social and historical contexts. Students in Film & New Media develop the theoretical knowledge and critical skills needed to address film as a unique artistic medium and form of cultural expression. Students in American Studies learn how to analyze a broad range of texts, including literature, art, film, and material culture, to deepen their understanding of the complexities in American life and culture. Coursework in all three tracks focuses on creative and insightful ways to better understand the many-faceted relationships between aesthetic works and their cultural, historical, and social contexts.
