Foreign and Second Language Education
Florida State’s Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Foreign and Second Language Education (FSLE) program prepares teacher candidates for rewarding careers in English as a Second Language (ESOL) and foreign languages in K-12 settings in the United States as well as teaching English in educational settings abroad. Students can also participate in research and investigate issues such as those related to language pedagogy and curricula, second language acquisition, the development of articulated foreign and second language programs, cultural aspects of language acquisition, and other issues related to multilingualism/multiculturalism.
Within the specialization area of foreign language education candidate research issues related to the teaching of Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Arabic, German, Hebrew, Turkish, and Portuguese among others. According to the Education Portal and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job outlook for TESOL educators is expected to advance rapidly over the next five years.
