Program Description:

Highly qualified graduate students finish the in the Curriculum and Instruction English Education program prepared to meet the demands of the teaching profession in the 21st century. We offer a master’s, specialist, and Ph.D to students already certified in teaching secondary level Language Arts, and a master’s track for students who are not already certified. As part of their advanced course work, students have numerous opportunities to work with adolescents and their teachers in local schools, tutor individual at-risk students, teach small groups, and plan and present lessons to middle and high school classes. As they practice planning, delivering, and managing high quality instruction, students are guided to rich understanding of the many print and non-print literacies that define today’s communication.
