Program Description:

The MS and EdS in Counseling programs integrate theory, research, and practice so graduates are not only prepared as counselors but also leaders in the field. An inclusive academic community is fostered through collaboration, scholarly and critical analysis, and respect. Each specialization includes a practicum and internship. The PhD program in Counseling provides students with the skills necessary to be leaders, practitioners, educators, and researchers in the field of counseling. Students specialize in Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy. This 54-credit program includes a practicum, internship, and dissertation.


All of the Barry University School of Education graduate programs are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The MS and PhD programs in Counseling are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The MS in School Counseling is approved by the Florida Department of Education to prepare school counselors at the elementary and secondary levels and leads to Florida Certification in Guidance and Counseling PK-12. Graduates of Barry's Counseling programs are eligible to take the examination to become a National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.).
