Program Description:

Only the second such program in New England, the M.S. in Emergency Management program offers 36 credits of interdisciplinary coursework – delivered in a hybrid format both online and on campus – that prepares students for successful roles in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Additionally, students in the program study the social affects of disasters, different disaster types, the role of the emergency manager in disasters, and disaster preparedness in the public and private sectors. Students in the program complete eight required core courses covering topics in hazard mitigation, catastrophe readiness, disaster recovery, emergency incident management, and more. An additional four courses are required for the degree and can be completed as electives or as requirements to satisfy a graduate certificate in criminal justice management, fire science, public administration, national security administration, or another area.


The university is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

International Student Requirements:

International students must provide proof of English proficiency from the TOEFL or IELTS exam or successfully complete ELS level 112 to enroll in courses. A Financial Statement for International Students form is also required along with an original bank statement from the student's sponsor showing adequate funds.
