Degrees Offered:

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Sacred Heart University offers a program of study leading to Connecticut teacher certification in Elementary education (grades 1 - 6), as well as Secondary education (grades 7-12) in biology, chemistry, English, general science, history and social studies, math and Spanish. Credits completed toward teacher certification may be applied to the Master of Arts in Teaching degree (MAT). The 33-credit MAT is also available to those who are already certified teachers. Teacher Certification candidates gain valuable experience in our tuition-paid, full-time Internship program in which we partner with numerous school districts in the local area. Interns are placed in a school system for one year to serve as instructional assistants and to complete the student teaching requirement, while pursuing their graduate studies in evening classes.

Fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC), the Connecticut State Department of Education, and NCATE.
