Program Description:

The eMAD graduate program fuses the practical and theoretical aspects of electronic media arts. It emphasizes the creative uses of emerging technology integrated with visual language and critical thought. Within this context, the program provides an opportunity for research and further development of knowledge and skills in electronic media arts, and instigates reevaluation within the context of art and design in its concepts and applications. The School of Art and Art History offers a master of fine arts degree in electronic media arts & design (eMAD). This is the teaching credential for higher education. The eMAD graduate program fuses the practical and theoretical aspects of electronic media arts. It emphasizes the creative uses of emerging technology integrated with visual language and critical thought. Within this context, the program provides an opportunity for research and further development of knowledge and skills in electronic media arts, and instigates reevaluation within the context of art and design in its concepts and applications. The eMAD program provides motivated individuals the opportunity to work with professionally active faculty members committed to mentoring students who will become leaders in the field of new media. Interaction with graduate faculty, fellow students, art history faculty, faculty from across the university and visiting professionals provides ample opportunities to discuss, critique and debate topics surrounding the student's thesis.

Students participate in a combination of required graduate courses, elective courses from across disciplines and independent advanced course work that supplement skill base and theoretical interests that apply to the student's M.F.A. project.
