Welcome to the School Psychology Program at the University of Colorado Denver. School psychologists provide psychological services and collaborate with educators, parents and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments to encourage the social, emotional, and academic development of children and youth. Our new Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in School Psychology provides comprehensive, supervised training and a strong foundation in school psychological theory and practices that are evidence-based, culturally sensitive and collaborative.
We utilize a practitioner-scholar training model that emphasizes prevention and systematic interventions that make positive impacts on the well being of individuals (birth to age 21), families, schools and communities. Through formal instruction, supervised clinical experiences and field experiences, our students develop knowledge and skills in screening, psychological assessment, direct and indirect interventions, prevention strategies and research.
We offer a systematic and reasoned sequential plan of study. As students acquire increasingly more complex knowledge and skills, they are provided more responsibility within their fieldwork and are expected to complete more complex tasks (e.g. moving from observation to implementation). Opportunities for supervised clinical experiences occur in both schools and clinical settings and begin the first year of the program. Field experiences include opportunities to serve children who present with a range of behavioral, psychological and social challenges, as well as those from culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
