Program Description:

The Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science provides a singular education with one mission: We prepare leaders. Our graduates are nurse executives, practitioners, researchers and educators at the vanguard of their disciplines. For more than 35 years, our faculty and students have gained a national presence in healthcare because we anticipate — and transcend — the needs of the industry. As healthcare continues to evolve with more complexity, expert, skilled, innovative nursing leadership is crucial. Nurse leaders of the future will need to focus on health care as well as organizational outcomes, and redesigning and improving health care environments. Both novice as well as experienced nurses need to keep pace with multiple challenges lead these changes. The curriculum for the Executive Nurse Leader program is based on the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) Nurse Executive Competencies with the intent of providing innovative and visionary nurse leaders to shape the future of health care delivery and services.

The University of San Diego is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is approved for veterans. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredits programs within the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science. Upon completion of the Executive Nurse Leader program and based on previous work experience eligibility criteria, graduates are able to seek certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Nursing Executive practice, Advanced Nursing Executive practice; and from the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) in Executive Nursing Practice, or Nurse Manager and Leader.
