Program Description:

UC Irvine's PhD Program in Visual Studies is a joint program offered by the Visual Studies faculty, which consists of all regular members of the faculties of the Departments of Art History and of Film & Media Studies.

The course of study offers students the opportunity to pursue graduate work in cultural analysis of visual artifacts and experiences. Visual Studies synthesizes methodological insights from both component disciplines in order to examine the social practices of visual representation and visuality itself.
