Certificate in Transpersonal Studies, Master Of Arts In Transpersonal Psychology (MATP)
Master of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology
Sofia University’s Master of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology program is a two year on-campus program that combines experiential learning with serious academic writing and research. Transformative learning is the foundation of the program, and our graduates serve as change agents, healers, and transpersonal scholars. The program was created to allow you to engage in your own personal development and prepare you for doctoral-level study. If you are a self-motivated learner that grapples with the challenges of our time and seeks to make positive change in the world, then this program is for you!
This life transformative program is taught by leading faculty in transpersonal psychology, who serve as mentors and guides in both the classroom and research settings. Our faculty publishes in diverse areas of inquiry including exceptional human experiences, consciousness studies, creativity, comparative religions, and the interface of cultural studies and transpersonal psychology. Our distinctive balance of scholarly study, experiential learning, and professional development serves to support you in finding ways to take transformational concepts and practices out into the world to promote social change and healing in a variety of settings.
The curriculum will help you explore core foundational theory and research in transpersonal psychology, somatic and meditative practices such as Aikido and meditation, and, through our professional development course series, an articulation of a roadmap for your next steps after graduation. This on-campus program will allow you to be a part of a close, diverse-learning community.
The Master of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology also allows you to further your life journey in three distinct and different directions. If creative expression calls to you, then this specialization will allow you to explore in-depth expression as well as increase your capacity for creative thinking and leadership in communities you wish to serve. If your desire is to assist people in their life journey, then the transformational life coaching specialization will provide you tools and training to facilitate change.
Lastly, if you yearn to be engaged in leading edge research, then the Transpersonal Education and Research specialization will incorporate mentoring by Sofia University faculty and will prepare you to apply scholarly skills within academic environments or organizations. Students who complete the Master's in Transpersonal Psychology degree are well equipped to pursue doctoral study in one of our transpersonally-oriented Ph.D. programs. In addition, graduates are recently applying their skills in holistic healing arts centers, nonprofit organizations, and alternative educational settings such as workshops and professional training programs.
A Graduate Certificate in Transpersonal Studies will be conferred after one year in the program.
NOTE: Students are required to receive 20 hours of personal therapy in their first year and 10 hours of spiritual guidance in their second year.
