Architecture Graduate Programs Designed with Your Career in Mind
NewSchool offers multiple paths to pursuing a graduate education in architecture, with four graduate architecture programs designed for different professional trajectories. For instance, the Master of Science in Architecture degree program is intended for students who do not plan to become registered architects, instead emphasizing research into problems in the built environment.
The Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) program, on the other hand, is a rigorous four-year graduate program designed to integrate the educational components students need to pursue licensure, including the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) hours and the Architectural Registration Examination (ARE).
These and other architecture graduate programs at NewSchool may focus on preparation for practice, architectural research, and project-based learning.

The mission of NewSchool of Architecture and Design is to nurture and inspire design-minded students, while fostering a firm foundation of critical thinking, ethical behavior, a culture of professional practice, and pathways to socially responsible leadership in a global society.Admissions
NewSchool programs may have multiple start dates during the year , so check with your program of interest to learn more about application deadlines and admissions criteria. Prospective students should apply online and submit a Statement of Purpose, in addition to program-specific requirements.
- Graduate Admissions: Among other requirements, prospective graduate students must have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. GRE or GMAT test scores are recommended but not required. And, some of the architecture graduate programs require a portfolio.
- Transfer Students: NewSchool may accept students who have begun their studies elsewhere. Applicants must have completed at least one semester of full-time, post-secondary level education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, among other requirements for transfer.
- International Students: Among other materials, prospective international students must submit a transcripts evaluation fee, translations of course descriptions, and TOEFL or IELTS scores.

NewSchool of Architecture & Design is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission.
In addition, programmatic accreditation is provided through the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) for certain professional architecture programs. NewSchool of Architecture and Design offers the following NAAB-accredited degree programs:
