Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences
The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program is a one year program designed for individuals who have completed the required undergraduate coursework but feel they need a stronger academic foundation to gain admission into medical, dental, pharmacy schools, or a biomedical Ph.D. program.
The program aims to make individuals more competitive for applications to health professional schools. By combining graduate level coursework in medicine, research training, support in application preparation, and seminars, individuals will be able to strengthen their applications to health professional schools through a comprehensive and structured program.
The Master in Biomedical Sciences is a one-year, three-semester (Fall, Spring, Summer) cohort-based program. In the first semester, students will select a research mentor and begin conducting their own research thesis project under mentor guidance. Students will be able to select a research project in translational, clinical, or community-based research areas based on their interests. Students will have the opportunity to attend scientific meetings, present their own research or even publish a paper, which will stand out in their next application cycle.
A strong emphasis in our program is the incorporation of the CDU advantage, which focuses on serving the under-resourced communities. We offer competencies training in social justice, urban and global health disparities, and medical mission trips within our curriculum.
Charles R. Drew University is a special place; its small class sizes offer individual attention and our students are very prepared to enter the marketplace or to continue in higher education following the program. The faculty at CDU has many years of education teaching along with practical experience in biomedical research. In the past few years, the CDU research enterprise has brought more than 30 million dollars in federal grant funding. The faculty utilizes cutting-edge technology and is dedicated to making students successful in the field of Biomedical Sciences.
