Degrees Offered:

Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) program is intended for students first entering the acupuncture field. Building on our Masters of Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM) curriculum, our DACM degree combines acupuncture therapeutics, herbal medicine, biomedicine, and clinical training with an added focus on integrative and collaborative health care, research literacy, and evidence-informed practices.

Our world-class faculty provide an immersive educational experience that integrates teachings of Chinese medicine with Western medical practices. Our alumni are leaders in the field, and students graduate with a firm understanding of the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbs in Western clinics and hospitals. Students also learn to incorporate contemporary research literature into their practices to respond to shifts in healing modalities. Our DACM program is immersive and transformative, and offers students the opportunity to become masters in their field. DACM graduates receive a PhD in Chinese Medicine (and can be called "doctor").

About the program

Our program is 4-years long, with classes on week-days and evenings. Additional program details:

  • Students intern at ACTCM’s on-site Acupuncture Herbal Clinic, Auricular Clinic, and several specialized clinical sites in the Bay area.
  • Our herbal program is one of the most comprehensive in the country.
  • We offer a two-week study abroad program in Hangzhou, three-month scholarship studies in Henan, and postgraduate training opportunities with leading Chinese herbal company Tong Ren Tang.
  • Our students consistently receive the highest scores on national and California licensure exams. In 2016 100% of our recent graduates passed the California Acupuncture Licensing Examination (CALE).
