This course leads to the award of the Teaching Qualification (Secondary Education) which enables the holder to teach in any UK or EU primary school and is recognised and respected in many other parts of the world, Canada in particular. The aim of the course is to ensure that students from all subject disciplines enter the teaching profession with the requisite skills, attitudes and competencies to teach in the modern secondary school. Students are involved in a partnership model of education designed to develop the professional and interpersonal skills needed to work cooperatively with colleagues and agencies involved in education. The course encourages active and participative styles of learning so that students can promote this ethos in their subsequent professional practice and continuing professional development. The course consists of four main programmes, three of which are taught on-campus: Generic Issues and Strategies for Teaching (GIST); Subject Studies; and Professional Studies. The fourth element is School Experience which is the core of the course.
