Program Description:

In common with our other courses at this level, this PCES is especially designed to focus on learning, teaching and raising standards; to promote evidence-based practice and school-based research; and to draw on best practice, OFSTED evidence and school improvement / school effectiveness research. It encourages an analysis of current policies and practices at local, national and international level. It also provides tools and resources to evaluate and develop views of learning, knowledge and pedagogy and the application of theory to practice. Aims: The Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies (PCES) “Curriculum, Learning and Assessment” has been specifically designed to meet the needs of teachers in the early stages of their primary, secondary or FE careers, having been planned in collaboration with partner schools and Local Authorities. It is also suitable for organisations and professionals outside education. Structure & Assessment: The Certificate consists of three separate units, “Curriculum”, “Learning” and “Assessment” which cover content including: curriculum theory and development, numeracy and literacy in the curriculum, ICT across the curriculum, assessment in theory and practice, assessment for learning Each unit in the PCES is assessed through a carefully designed 4000 word assignment, submitted shortly after the end of the unit. For a full Master’s qualification you will need to successfully complete 2 PCES to gain a total of 120 M-level credits of taught units before undertaking your 16000 word dissertation Modules: Curriculum: November – January Learning: February – April Assessment: April – June
