The MA Japanese Studies offers a flexible range of units in the social sciences combined with rigorous language tuition at beginners, and intermediate levels.
Students may choose from units on the society, business environment and international relations of Japan. These will address such questions as:
- What are the implications of globalisation for the Japanese state?
- How have women contributed to Japan’s economic development?
- Why is ‘public memory’ important to our understanding of Japan today?
The language programme offers a range of entry points and offers rigorous and intensive skills development.

Accreditation:We are pleased to offer the Sheffield Scholarship 2016 to all US students commencing a Taught Masters programme in September 2016. The scholarships are: • £2,000 if your tuition fees are between £14,500 and £16,500 • £2,500 for each student paying fees of £16,501 and upwards We also offer scholarships of 50% of the course fee which will be offered on the basis of academic merit.
International Student Requirements:IELTS 7.0 (minimum 6 in each component) or equivalent.
