Master of Research, Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate
This course has been designed to produce graduates with the necessary skills to make a career in research in the disciplines of blotechnology and biomedical sciences or to prepare them to study for a PhD. The course differs in a number of ways from "traditional" postgraduate qualifications. There is a reduced level of formal teaching via lectures and unseen written exams. Much greater emphasis exists on use of morevaried forms of assessment, particularly laboratory work and research projects, data interpretation and written and oral presentations. The course is modular enabling study on either a full-time or part-time basis, to fit with work commitments. Three exit awards (Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Research) add to the flexibility of the course and allow it to meet the needs of both students and employers. The broad nature of the course and its high practical content increase the range of opportunities for graduates. Graduates could also choose to go on to further study for a PhD, for example, or use the skills acquired in an industrial organisation.
