The University of Leeds has one of the country's largest and most dynamic English departments, renowned for its unique range and variety of academic work. In the Research Assessment Exercises in 1992 and in 1996 the School of English was awarded a '5' rating - indicating research of international standing. The interests of the forty-three current full-time members of staff range across the whole spectrum of English studies and are sustained by active research and publishing. In the last five years over three hundred books, articles, and reviews, comprising a variety of critical studies, editions and biographies, have been published by the staff.
