Policy Studies - Certificate
This course has been specially designed for people who have experience of policy making and implementation and who are in full-time or part-time employment. Applications are also welcomed from new social science graduates. Students come from a wide range of occupational backgrounds, including the health service, local authorities and the police. This is an interdisciplinary social science scheme, with contributions from politics, social policy and sociology. We aim to enable you to reflect on your work experience in the context of a wide theoretical framework at postgraduate level; to provide an opportunity for you to study policy processes from an interdisciplinary social science perspective; and to familiarise you with techniques used in policy oriented research, including analysis, evaluation and presentation. The first year consists of three taught courses: policy analysis; research methods, statistics and computing; and socio-political theory. Assessment is by written coursework.
