University of Gloucestershire
School of Natural and Social Sciences
MA Criminology, Postgraduate Diploma in Criminology, Postgraduate Certificate in Criminology
The course is built around a core of three specialist themes: violent crime (particularly homicide), crime and the community, and international issues in crime, security and conflict. Each theme builds on the research expertise of tutors and the contributions of a wide range of practitioners drawn from the police, community groups and other agencies.
The course offers a critical and integrative understanding of the relationship between theory, research and application to real-world settings. There is a focus on developing practitioner skills, and assignments require the application of advanced subject knowledge to activities which emulate challenges in the workplace.
Students take at least two of these themes and may pursue all three. Students also have the option, if they wish, to undertake study in ancillary subjects including forensic psychology and Geographic Information Systems.
