Program Information

Degrees Offered:

MSc in Creative Writing

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The programme seeks to establish a responsive forum of students and tutors, of intelligent readers and acute listeners within a supportive yet challenging environment. This one-year, full-time taught MSc offers students the opportunity to focus in depth on their own practice - of poetry or fiction - and develop both creative and critical skills through a combination of weekly workshops and seminars. On a regular basis, students present their own work for discussion and in seminars examine particulars of their chosen form, moving from theoretical considerations to practical applications of these through regular writing assignments. In addition, students elect to take one MSc literature option course. A programme of guest writers and other professionals offers the opportunity to gain insight into the practicalities of life as a writer and a voluntary but very popular collaborative project with Edinburgh College of Art encourages a deeper awareness of the relationship between text and image.
