The MSc Advanced Arabic programme equips you to handle Modern Standard Arabic and the Educated Spoken Arabic of the Levant and/or Egypt in a wide variety of settings. A wide selection of class topics work on the core language skills – reading, writing, speaking and listening – in a dynamic, communicative style. Lesson content includes contemporary Arabic literature, press and real-world documentation, taught by experts not only in the Arabic language and pedagogy, but many other aspects of life and culture in the Arab world. Coursework includes writing academic essays, conducting academic and media interviews, and adapting literary texts for performance – all in Arabic.
In addition, the programme includes workshops by guest teachers from translation, academia and other fields where the knowledge of Arabic is central to their careers.
As a key component of our programme you will also spend six weeks studying in Amman or Cairo, combining intensive Arabic tuition with a language-based project.
You may be able to opt for a teaching pedagogy unit which will provide you with the skills to teach Arabic to non-native speakers in a communicative manner.
