MSc Acoustics and Music Technology
Edinburgh, Scotland EH8 9YL
Acoustics and music technology sit at an exciting crossroads between science and the arts. In this diverse programme, you will combine aspects of both worlds to gain insight into the science of sound.
As a student, you will work in a cross-disciplinary environment where primary courses in acoustics, signal processing and computer programming can be combined with creative study in sound design and other areas of audio technology.
You will have access to excellent facilities across the University including an extensive suite of acoustics and vibration equipment, recording studios and sound desks, anechoic and reverberation chambers, up-to-date computing equipment and historic concert halls.
The programme will fit around your interests and career objectives. You can choose a balance of scientific and creative subjects by combining study in sound design and digital media with technical courses in cutting-edge musical sound synthesis and acoustics. Or you can specialise in science-focused subjects through advanced courses in signal processing, speech synthesis and psychoacoustics.
Many of our graduates follow a career path into postgraduate research. Graduates also find employment in acoustic consultancy, commercial acoustics and audio programming. Recent alumni have also created start-up companies in areas such as real-time audio spatialisation.
