Masters in Carbon Finance
This programme, when it launched, was the world's first MSc in Carbon Finance, dedicated to professionals in the carbon market and climate change investment field. The syllabus uniquely focuses on the business opportunities and financial flows driven by society's response to climate change.
It's a response that is expected to drive trillions of dollars of new investment over the coming decades. Delivering this investment will require professionals with a deep understanding of the mechanisms that will regulate new financial flows like carbon markets and climate investment funds.
The MSc in Carbon Finance will appeal to graduates in business, economics, engineering or another social or physical science discipline. Students also typically bring work experience alongside a desire to move into a new career in carbon finance, investment, consulting or relating policy or regulatory roles.
Likely future roles include carbon credit development, carbon trading, carbon consulting, carbon accounting and related policy or regulatory roles (e.g. with government or NGOs). This MSc offers an intensive exploration of a subject crucial to the future of business and, of course, the planet itself.
Why Edinburgh?
Very few business schools in the world have a similar depth of expertise in carbon finance. Not only that, but students will benefit from having attended one of the top Universities in the world, ranked 18th by QS (2019), and have the opportunity to make connections with organisations via consultancy projects and guest speakers, which will hopefully increase their employment prospects and help them follow the career path they seek. And added bonus is that students get to spend a year in one of the most beautiful cities in the world whilst they complete their studies!
