School of Humanities and Social Science
Cultural Studies is the most exciting thing to happen to the humanities and social sciences during the past 50 years, transforming the way we think about every aspect of society, power relations and personal experience . UEL has been central to this process, being the home of one the oldest Cultural Studies programmes in the world .The MA offers an advanced grounding in the core themes of Cultural Studies and an opportunity to explore the full range of cutting-edge debates in the field. The foundation module examines the changing nature of our complex societies and the ways in which these changes have been understood by key thinkers from Marx and Freud to Hardt & Negri while also providing an introduction to the themes and approaches of the options. Students may select from a wide range of options including Consumption in the Twentieth Century, Sexualities, Contemporary Cultural Theory, Postcolonial Cultures and Global Media before undertaking a dissertation on a topic of their choice.
