MA Mathematics Education
The MA Mathematics Education degree is one year full-time degree intended for mathematics graduates with an interest in education, practising mathematics teachers, mathematics teacher educators and other educational professionals. Teaching experience is welcome but so are applications from those just beginning or considering a career in mathematics education. The course is designed to allow a useful interchange of ideas between those with significant teaching experience. The course introduces the study of mathematics education as an academic discipline and will acquaint you with elements from psychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy and history of mathematics that influence mathematics education research. Training will be provided in the methodology of educational research and you will have the opportunity to pursue an individual specialist topic within mathematics education under the supervision of a member of the Research in Mathematics Education Group (RME).
Accreditation:There are many external indicators which endorse the quality of our teaching and research. These include top ratings within the National Student Satisfaction survey, '+3' Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) recognition, and "Outstanding" recognition by OfSTED for our programmes of Initial Teacher Education.
