Developed in partnership between the Creative Technology Department at the University of Bradford and Escape Studios, this course has been created to offer an outstanding level of tuition in the execution of digital visual effects. The program has been designed with input from major UK visual effects studios and will offer a practical, project based learning experience that emulates the demands of the professional post-production environment. Students completing the course will attain a mastery of their subject and the ability to work as a junior technical directors for a leading visual effects studio.
Throughout a series of modules students will work in small teams – as is typical in production – and execute a variety of projects with an emphasis placed on the creation of photo-realistic computer graphics work, and its integration with live-action plates. Incorporating digital set extension, product replacement, character animation and effects work, projects will be based upon briefs set by the participating industry companies and the following skills taught:
3D asset creation (Maya)
Photo-realistic lighting and texturing (Maya, ZBrush)
Tracking & Compositing (Shake, Nuke, PF-Track)
Character rigging and animation (Maya)
Particles, fluids , dynamics & scripting (Maya, MEL, Houdini, Python)
Rendering (Maya, Mental Ray, Renderman)
In addition to developing creative skills, students will understand their role within the overall post-production pipeline; lectures will be given on all aspects of the process, including pre-production, the live-action shoot, cameras and the practical realities of asset management within a facility. The course is taught full-time, 6 hours per day, by industry professional tutors.
