Program Description:

Course available PART-TIME to applicants in UK employment. Under UK-SPEC the exemplifying qualifications for graduates wishing to become chartered engineers are either an accredited MEng degree, or an accredited BEng (Hons) degree supplemented by the equivalent of an approved Master's degree. The object of these MSc courses is to provide a route by which graduates with an accredited BEng (Hons) degree, and who are currently in UK employment, can obtain an MSc qualification with a view to seeking chartered engineer status. This programme has been designed with a high degree of flexibility and to be 'employer friendly'. There is a wide range of modules to choose from to suit each student's prior learning and discipline interest. The combination of taught credits is agreed in discussion between the student, their employer and the course leader. These courses comprise 60 credits of taught material in the Autumn semester followed by a 60-credit work-based learning unit whereby an individual learning contract is developed related to the student's personal work tasks. This stage of the work can be undertaken over an extended period of up to 12 months. Students then progress to prepare a dissertation valued at 60 credits in order to achieve an MSc; this study may be either work-based or university-based. Thus any student need only be absent from the workplace for the 12 weeks of teaching between September and December and the associated examinations the following January.
