The MSc in Analytical Sciences is designed to provide a platform for specialism in modern subject areas with direct relevance to the employment market. The course develops a solid set of practical skills in the University's state-of-the-art Analytical Centre leading to specialist applications and employment opportunities as an analytical scientist in named themes: Pharmaceutical, Forensic, Astrobiological, Archaeological and Environmental analytical sciences. The Analytical Centre is housed in a new pursose-built building at the heart of the University's main campus. Students will benefit from excellent research laboratories and instrumentation in a research-focused environment. Students will graduate with an array of interdisciplinary practical skills, developed through specialist lectures, workshops, hands-on laboratory and analytical experience.
The core modules (60 credits) are dedicated to developing generic analytical skills, specialism practice for each theme and project management experience. Focus in the modules relating to the analytical instruments (60 credits) includes lectures, workshops and hands-on laboratory and instrument sessions with relevant samples under the instruction of a team of truly interdisciplinary specialists in the area. Uniquely, students will work alongside industrial scientists and research students covering the same training package in this phase of the programme. The dissertation offers an opportunity for substantial research in your chosen area of specialism (60 credits).
The course is designed to offer learning, including continued professional development, for both full-time and part-time studies. Awards of MSc, Postgraduate Diploma, Certificate or Certificate of attendance can be awarded.
The start date will be September in the academic year.
