Within a world of communication which is changing and evolving in seemingly random ways, the concepts and methods that underlie such changes constitute a riverbed of knowledge through which this ephemeral world flows. This knowledge is the basis of design thinking. We acknowledge the pervasiveness of design thinking in our lives. It is almost impossible to remain untouched by visual communication strategies. Such strategies often provide both a filter and a framework for the way we understand our world and ourselves. The social responsibility that comes from participation in such matters demands designers who are creative, discerning and critically aware. The crafting of this flow of information and intentions requires skill with both verbal and visual languages - the structures with which we communicate.
