The remit of International Relations has widened considerably since the end of the Cold War with traditional issues of war, security, and diplomacy now sharing their prominence with new, or renewed, debates on international institutions and globalisation, development and international political economy, identity and rights. Both the theoretical and empirical spaces that have developed as a result posit International Relations as a key analytical standpoint for coming to terms with the complexity of the global challenges that currently face individuals, states and international organisations.
