MSc MsC by Research in Physics
An MSc by Research is available on several Physics topics: Antimatter Physics; Cold Atoms and Quantum Optics; Laser Physics; Lattice Gauge Theory; Nanotechnology; Quantum Fields and Strings;Theoretical Particle Physics.
In addition to well-equipped general laboratories and workshops, the Department hosts specialist equipment.
The atomic and molecular laser group have a low energy positron beam together with a high field superconducting magnet for the study of positronium and scanning tunnelling electron and near-field optical microscopes.
The laser group has a laser induced resonance system with enhanced analytical capability, and a Raman microscope.
Finally, the theory group has recently acquired a PC cluster for the study of strong interaction, together with an extensive network of workstations and PCs linked to the University network and SuperJANET. It also shares the use of the teraflop QCDOC facility based in Edinburgh. There are additional computer systems for online use in the research and teaching laboratories.
International Student Requirements:
Overseas equivalent qualifications may be considered.
