The programme consists of a full year’s supervised research in one of the research areas listed below. Regular discussions between the student and supervisor form the core of the study. The preparation of the thesis begins early on in the programme and, as such, the student needs to engage with the mathematical research ethos most promptly. The University has one of the finest mathematics libraries in the UK, which houses an extensive collection of books and periodicals and, in addition, the Department of Mathematics has a reading room containing an impressive collection of research books available to staff and students alike.
