Program Description:

The Swansea Legal Practice Course is a practical one year course that will equip you with the practice skills and confidence for a successful career in law in England and Wales. The course is offered full-time and part-time and is supported by a dedicated team of professional legal practitioners with first-class facilities which include a state-of-the-art interactive advocacy suite, lecture theatre and a dedicated practitioner Resource Room with full network access to extensive electronic legal practitioner resources. Students at Swansea also participate in the Swansea Pro Bono Law Clinic run by law students under the supervision of qualified practitioners and take advantage of valuable networking opportunities. By the end of the course you will: •have knowledge of substantive law and legal transactional procedures •develop fully transferable skills and the ability to undertake legal research •be able to deal with the demands that are likely to be made of you as a trainee solicitor and beyond •have a firm grounding for your future practice as a solicitor Compulsory subjects •Business Law and Practice •Property Law and Practice •Criminal and Civil Litigation •Probate Within these subjects you will learn more about EU Law and Human Rights. In addition, you will be introduced to professional conduct, financial and accounting issues and business / commercial awareness. Legal Skills •Practical legal Research •Interviewing and Advising clients •Writing and Drafting documents •Advocacy In the final 12 weeks of the course you are able to choose three of the following elective subjects: Electives •Advanced Commercial Law •Advanced Criminal Practice •Business Leases •Employment Law & Practice •Family Law & Practice •Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Students benefit from the School’s strong local and national links with the legal profession. Many of our students have undertaken work experience placements at these firms and secured training contracts with them. We have an established Easter Vacation Work experience Programme that assists students to in finding placements at local courts and practitioners including large commercial practices.
