International Studies and Diplomacy
Established in 2000, the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD) at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is a research-driven unit committed to the promotion of excellence in scholarship and teaching. The Centre is committed to the development of applied international studies and to ensuring that its work impacts key international debates.
CISD's MA in International Studies and Diplomacy programme provides students with the skills and training necessary to begin or develop an international career, whether in global civil society, the corporate world or government, including traditional diplomacy. The basic entry requirement is a UK "2:1" degree or overseas equivalent in a relevant discipline, however the Centre will consider applicants with professional experience who might not otherwise be eligible.
The study of international affairs and contemporary diplomatic practice as offered at the School of Oriental and African Studies provides a unique educational opportunity for individuals interested in acquiring a better understanding of the nature of contemporary global issues. SOAS offers an education that goes beyond the Euro-centric approach that has dominated such programmes in the past. It is able to do this because the width and depth of its scholarly resources make it the leading centre for the study of Asia and Africa in Europe.
