Oxford Brookes University
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Law, LLB Legal Practice
This course is for students who wish to become laywers practising in England and Wales. Students who take both the GDL and the LPC at Oxford Brookes University have the option of receiving an LLB (Hons) (Legal Practice) degree. You will spend the first year of the LLB (Hons) Legal Practice at Brookes studying for the Graduate Diploma in Law. This is the academic stage of legal professional education. The second year will be spent at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice (OXILP) studying the Legal Practice Course. This is the vocational stage of training as a solicitor, which every aspiring solicitor must complete. The course is designed to prepare you for life in practice and convey an understanding of the law and its application to practical issues. OXILP (a department within the School of Social Sciences and Law) offers the LPC as a one-year full-time course or a two-year part-time course.
OXILP’s LPC has an excellent reputation and has received the top SRA grading of 'commendable practice' across all six areas of assessment. The relatively small size of the institute allows it to foster a friendly, collegial atmosphere with fully supportive staff. Each student is supported by a personal tutor and a careers tutor.
