Program Description:

The LLM in Intellectual Property Law enables you to study the fundamental principles behind the laws of intellectual property.
The programme aims to provide you with an advanced knowledge of substantive intellectual property law, and of the place and role of intellectual property within domestic, regional and international contexts.
This LLM enables you to develop a fully rounded understanding of intellectual property rights, their role in society and the impact of intellectual property (IP) on global economics and development.
The programme aims to equip students with an advanced knowledge and understanding of IP law within an international, European and domestic (UK) context.
The LLM covers all the major IP rights, including copyright, designs, trade marks, and patents as well as confidentiality, passing off, database rights and other IP protection.
It also addresses global policy-making and the framework of international treaties that govern intellectual property law, as well as consideration of IP rights in their social, cultural and commercial contexts.
Please note that the one year and 20 month study durations for the LLM in Intellectual Property Law will not be available for entry in the 2017/18 academic year.

The University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Law School is an Internationally recognised Higher Education institution accredited to provide advanced education. It should be noted that a postgraduate masters degree in Law from the University of Edinburgh does not qualify for entry into the Scottish (or other country's) Legal Practice. Advice from your local Bar Association or Law Society should be sought if you wish to pursue legal practice in your country of domicile.
