Program Description:

Developing innovative solutions for the geoenvironmental and geoengineering business sectors presents entrepreneurial scientists and engineers with significant business opportunities. This programme aims to enable you to identify these opportunities and, through developing your technical and business skills,help you create commercially attractive products and services.The programme is designed for graduates who have previously studied biology, chemistry, civil engineering, Earth science or environmental science. You take 50 credits of business and enterprise modules and create, operate and close down a real business. You then take 50 credits (MSc) or 30 credits (Diploma) of advanced technical modules from a selection that addresses a wide range of geological, environmental and engineering topics. Modules include: analytical geochemistry; aqueous geochemistry; contaminated land; environmental geology; field class; foundation design; groundwater assessment; ground improvement techniques; introduction to microbiology, microbial physiology and biogeochemistry; investigation, testing and interpretation; rock engineering; slopes and walls; sources and fate of pollutants.
The final project brings together the scientific and business components of the course. For the MSc this is an 80-credit enterprise project, in which an innovation created by you is developed to proof of concept. The project report includes a business case for developing the innovation commercially, supported by original technical findings and quantitative market research. For the Diploma this is a 40-credit market research project.
