Program Description:

In order to maintain its competitiveness in world markets, British Industry is making increasing use of mathematical modelling to 'prove' designs before manufacture, 'test' plant before construction, 'explain' the occurrence of faults in processes, etc. The aim of the Industrial Mathematical Modelling (IMM) program is to teach the necessary skills to people seeking career opportunities in this developing area. In particular it will train personnel to: develop an appropriate model of a given system from first principles, choose and apply an appropriate method of solution of the model, test the accuracy of the solution and the validity of the underlying model develop and apply these skills in a series of case studies
